Introduction to Chinese Calligraphy

The aim of this book is to explain the structure of Chinese characters, the technique of their writing, as well as to instill certain calligraphic skills in students. The textbook is intended for students of the Eastern Faculty and other... specialized educational institutions where the Chinese language is taught, as well as for those studying Chinese independently and wishing to improve or organize their knowledge and skills in this area.
Since traditionally Chinese characters were written with a brush, and all writing techniques are associated with this writing instrument, the basics of calligraphic technique in this edition are also presented in relation to brush writing. When writing characters with a pen (the only feasible option for classes in a university classroom), it is recommended to replicate the brush techniques with a pen; this method of studying characters will not only help to memorize the character strokes and their order but also to develop a normative calligraphic handwriting, which is extremely important for anyone studying the Chinese language.
