Sciences, Head of the Center for Medical and Social Rehabilitation of Children and Adolescents with Disabilities of St. Petersburg State Healthcare Institution "City Children's Polyclinic No. 19" of the Petrograd District, highest category physician Elena Vladimirovna Fesenko, and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Faculty of Clinical Psychology of the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Academy and the Department of Correctional Pedagogy and Correctional Psychology of the A.S. The monograph examines the primary compensatory mechanisms of a child's brain, describes the most common borderline neuropsychological disorder - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) associated with minimal brain dysfunction, and issues of treatment and education of children suffering from this pathology. It also discusses the main stages and theories of child development (J. Piaget, E. Erikson, L.S. Vygotsky) and the most serious pathologies of mental development.
The authors present their own data on methods of compensating for the discussed borderline disorder, including the use of biofeedback, physiotherapy, reflexology, pharmacological regulation under the control of electroencephalogram, and various psychological methods of influence.
In an engaging form, the book presents the case histories of children and vivid clinical examples that help to understand the main psychological component of the discussed suffering. Based on the obtained experience, the authors conclude that ADHD is associated with residual damage to various brain structures and impaired interactions between brain structures responsible for speech processes, memory, and intellectual development of the child.
The book is primarily addressed to practicing physicians (psychiatrists, neurologists, psychotherapists) and psychologists who encounter manifestations of ADHD in their work, and to parents interested in issues of the emergence, course, and therapy of this complex disease.
