"Building a New House!" – the sixth book in the popular series of picture books "Story in Pictures" by German artists Doro Göbel and Peter Knorr. It tells how, in an unattractive area of the city, the construction of a... new residential building begins on the site of an old garage and a dilapidated supermarket. Workers pour the foundation, gradually erect the walls, mount scaffolding, lay the roof, and carry out finishing work. The construction process and the equipment involved are captured with utmost authenticity. One can observe how the installation of a crane takes place, how the foundation is poured using a concrete mixer, how the excavator digs trenches for cables and sewage, how building scaffolds are mounted, how the roof is laid, and so much more. Incidents do occur on the construction site: for example, excavator operator Erwin finds a treasure of gold coins in the ground, after which a whole team of archaeologists arrives at the construction site. And during the rafter celebration, traditionally organized by the builders, sausages get burnt while reaching the highest point of the building, prompting firefighters, who mistakenly took the smoke for a fire, to rush to the construction site as a full team. And finally, exactly a year later, the beautiful new house is ready! Amazingly, with its appearance, the entire neighborhood transforms. Cozy cafes and useful stores open up around, children's playgrounds and flower beds appear – much to the delight of the newcomers and the residents. The picture books in the series "Story in Pictures" are like real silent films. By exploring the book filled with images, children learn to notice details, trace logical connections between events, and independently create narratives based on the pictures. There are so many plot lines in this book that it is impossible to follow them all at once. They intertwine, intersect, and occur simultaneously, just like in real cinema – and in real life!
