The collection "Bruno the Bear in the Garden" continues the series of educational picture books created by the renowned Swedish writer and illustrator Gunilla Ingves. The book includes two stories: "Bruno the Bear and the Earthworm Uffe" and "Bruno the... Bear and the Grasshopper Tippe." In the first story, Bruno the Bear is walking through the garden and notices a strange mound of earth in the radish bed. When he moves it with his paw, he sees an underground tunnel. How wonderful it would be to get in there! The curious bear can become small whenever he wants. How? That's his secret! Becoming tiny, he rolls underground and lands right on the earthworm Uffe. When Uffe comes to his senses from the shock, he shows the bear his territory and introduces him to his friends, the myriapods. And the bear saves the worm from a fierce centipede and helps him stock up on food. He meticulously records his observations in a diary. Bruno's notes and drawings fill four pages: a cross-section of Uffe's underground domain, the lifestyle of earthworms, their body structure and method of reproduction, their friends and enemies, as well as the benefits they bring to the garden. In the second story, Bruno the Bear and the dog Lolla sit in the garden and listen to the chirping of grasshoppers. Bruno is very curious about how they make such music. He shrinks to the size of a grasshopper and meets Tippe. Tippe shows Bruno how they chirp, and together they set off to find Tippe a bride. Full speed ahead, the friends crash into a sticky web and are about to become prey to a venomous spider. But Lolla comes running and tears the webs apart. The day ends with a joyful wedding in Bruno the Bear's garden. Then the bear writes down everything he saw and learned during this outing in his diary. Four pages are filled with his notes and drawings about the family of green grasshoppers to which Tippe belongs — their lifestyle, reproduction, friends and enemies. The books about Bruno the Bear, with gentle illustrations, numerous details on each page, and charming characters, teach children aged 3-6 years to understand nature.
