He has conducted research in the fields of statistics and social behavior; participated in investigations into the causes of bird flu and Ebola fever outbreaks. A regular contributor to Nautilus, BBC Focus, Scientific American, Wired, New Scientist, Financial Times, and The Observer. He is a recipient of the Wellcome Trust charitable foundation award for educational activities.
