Oblomov

Ivan Alexandrovich Goncharov (1812–1891) - a famous writer and literary critic who gained a solid reputation during his lifetime as one of the brightest and most significant representatives of Russian realistic literature, and the social types he created in his... novels became a means of self-knowledge and self-education for Russian society.
In the novel "Oblomov", divided into four parts that symbolize the flowing stages of the hero's life, exactly alternating seasons, the story of an idealistic dreamer who is incapable of serious activity is narrated. Critic Yu. N. Govorukha-Otrok wrote about the hero: "The popular and Christian beginnings live in him - but his soul is not awakened, it yearns for the need for active love - and does not know where to find satisfaction for this need."
In his dreams, Oblomov returns to the image from a distant childhood - the pastorally ideal Oblomovka, where the peaceful noble life is undisturbed and flourishes, while in reality the cherished serfdom becomes untenable and is outlived.
