As a result of many years of research, analysis of the battle logs of the Army Group "South", a number of interviews with former commanders and officers of divisions, corps, and armies of the Wehrmacht, as well as political and military figures of the Danube countries, studying a vast amount of memoir literature and documentary sources, the author was able to present a realistic picture of how the fate of not only the German Reich but also the future of Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia was determined in the Danube region.
