The collection of essays-memories by Zinaida Gippius "Living Faces" was first published in 1925 in Paris and Prague (in the USSR - only after perestroika). The famous writer and poetess tells about her acquaintance with Blok, Bryusov, Rozanov, Sologub, Chekhov, Tolstoy,... and many others - and all this are not frozen "official portraits", but people in motion, in action, in confrontation with each other. Gippius does not hide her sympathies and antipathies, which allows the reader to learn much not only about the outstanding people of that time but also about herself.
