"Pedagogical Poem" is a widely known and the most significant work of the Soviet teacher and writer Anton Semenovich Makarenko (1888-1939). Through artistic prose, the author describes the creation of the Gorky colony near Poltava (1920-1928) and its rich, sometimes... dramatic life. A. S. Makarenko successfully re-educated and returned minors who were homeless and offenders to a full cultural and social life based on feasible socially useful labor, thoughtful and reasonable involvement of the students in managing the collective, unity of trust and demands for all members of the collective, including teachers and hired skilled workers. It took the author ten years (1925-1935) to create "Pedagogical Poem". The fate of this work turned out to be complicated. In the 1930s it was removed from libraries, while in the post-war period it was printed in huge editions.
