The monograph represents the result of a comprehensive study of the political and cultural contacts between Russia and the East Slavic lands of the Commonwealth in the late 16th to the first half of the 17th century, based on various... sources. The research proves the incorrectness of one-sided and idealized representations of the nature of such contacts and demonstrates the significance these contacts had for both sides, as well as the factors that facilitated or hindered their development. The book also answers the question of why the turning point in the development of these contacts, which led to the reunification of Ukraine with Russia, occurred in the late 1640s. The monograph illustrates the specifics of contacts between related and culturally close communities that had long existed under different historical conditions.
