The Death of a Person

We present to your attention a book dedicated to the most mysterious phenomenon of human life — death. The author of the book is Edwin Shneidman (1918–2009), an American psychologist, founder of suicidology and thanatology, who separated these fields from... clinical psychology and psychiatry. In 1958, together with N. Farberow and R. Litman, he established the Center for Suicide Prevention in Los Angeles, and in 1968 — the American Association of Suicidologists.
Human death is multifaceted, believes Shneidman, and he examines its types in detail, such as appropriate, brain death, cardiac death, premature, psychological, social, subconsciously intentional… Therefore, the book is titled “The Death of a Person”.
Edwin Shneidman selflessly defended life, asserting that to fully live it, one must be aware of death, while avoiding its romanticization. “The Death of a Person” was nominated for the National Book Award in the USA in 1973 and has undergone countless editions.
