The book presented to your attention is a reissue of the famous work by Protopriest Mikhail Ivanovich Khitrov (1851-1899) "Saint Alexius, Man of God," published in Moscow in 1893.
In this book, the life and feat of Saint Alexius is narrated...
in a literary form. He was born in Rome in the second half of the 4th century into a wealthy family and, under the influence of Christian ideas, went to live in the East, in the city of Edessa, where he, having given away his possessions, spent seventeen years in fasting and prayer.
Returning to Rome, Saint Alexius lived unrecognized as a beggar in his parents' house for another seventeen years. And only after the capture of Rome by the Visigoths in 410 AD, when difficult times fell upon its inhabitants, did the voice of God direct the praying: "Seek the man of God, that he may pray for Rome and all its people."
Thus, the feat of Saint Alexius became known.
