Muslim Apocrypha about Christ: Anthology

The anthology includes excerpts from works that represent an unusual part of the religious heritage of Islam — Muslim views on the image and teachings of Jesus Christ. The stories, sayings, and parables of authors created over a vast area... stretching from Spain to China and covering a millennium (from the 8th to the 18th century), reflect a little-known tradition of deep dialogue between the followers of the Prophet Muhammad and Christian tradition. Under the pen of famous ulema and faqihs, the most important elements of Gospel narratives and church dogma acquired new meanings and were interpreted in accordance with Quranic teachings. Based on a variety of sources (theological treatises, histories of prophets and saints, collections of wise sayings, chronicles, Sufi writings, etc.), the book explores the reasons and circumstances of this religious-cultural interaction.
