120 Days of Sodom, or The School of Debauchery

The philosophy of destruction, the exaltation of vice, all kinds of rapes and punishments – in the unfinished novel "120 Days of Sodom, or The School of Debauchery," written in the Bastille. The manuscript was hidden by de Sade in... the wall of his cell and was accidentally discovered only in 1900. In the book, the Marquis de Sade glorifies sexual pleasure that consists of inflicting pain on another person, subjecting them to humiliation. Subsequently, it was after studying the works of the Marquis de Sade that sexologist Richard von Krafft-Ebing introduced the concept of "sadism." Based on de Sade's book, Pasolini's drama "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom" was made - about the last days of Italian fascism.
