The new book by German-Swiss writer Christian Kracht (born 1966) "Eurotrash" is formally a continuation of his debut novel "Faserland" (1995).The setting is modern Switzerland, where the main character travels again and again, encountering various manifestations of the German culture... he loves and hates. Now he is not alone — he is accompanied by his elderly mother, either mad from old age, alcohol, and pills, or enlightened and seeing more than ordinary people. Exploring modernity, Kracht experiments with genre as well. "Eurotrash" is a kind of autofiction, full of real details from the author's life, sometimes shocking, and no less radical elements of invention. The novel has made it to the shortlists of the German and Swiss Book Prizes.
