Thresholds. Fresh Devotion

The life of the main character of the novel "Thresholds" by Yuri Neshatov went off the rails after a disaster that occurred in his laboratory during testing. Despite the fact that Neshatov was not to blame for the deaths of... people, he felt guilty and reluctantly agreed to return to work. The complex relationships within the new laboratory, the fates and stories of people, the difficult relationships with them, anonymous letters, brief romances, and true love, as well as the eternal struggle between good and evil — this is what I. Grekova's novel "Thresholds" is about. I. Grekova's novel "Fresh Devotion," written in 1962, was published only 35 years later. The main character of the novel, a contemporary of the revolution, Konstantin Levin, was named after one of the main characters in Tolstoy's novel "Anna Karenina." His life and fate are defined by tragic events occurring in our country both a few years before the revolution and after — up to Stalin's death: the Jewish pogrom experienced by Kosti's mother, the civil war, the Stalinist repressions of the 30s, the Great Patriotic War, the front, the Siege of Leningrad, the death of loved ones who found themselves in the territories occupied by the Germans, the struggle against cosmopolitanism after the war, the persecution of cybernetics, the doctors' plot. But the novel is not only about this — it is primarily about that without which life is impossible — about love, about friendship, about family, about loyalty, and about human courage.
