After the release of Pushkin's novel in 1958, illustrated by Lydia Timoshenko in the grisaille technique, the artist did not find peace — unexpectedly for many, she turned away from her "Onegin" ("no one is to blame for this but...
me, as I made it too late, and now life has moved on") and… started illustrating "Onegin" again. Adjusting to the new times, Lydia Yakovlevna began to seek greater freedom, lightness, conciseness of form, and simplicity. She translated the entire series into the technique of color lithography, with a sparse color palette. But this was not just a transition to another technique; it was a new, endlessly painful quest for the greatest expressiveness and poetic quality.
Work on the new book lasted more than six years. Like the version with the grisails, the lithographs were published only once, in 1966.
The text is printed according to the edition: A. S. Pushkin. Works in three volumes. Volume two. — Moscow: Artistic Literature, 1986.
Images of works from the archive of the artist L. Ya. Timoshenko's family were used in the book
