The novel “Crime and Punishment” is a specimen of psychological and socio-philosophical prose. The main character, student Rodion Raskolnikov, plans a murder and robbery. His motives are, on one hand, clear: he is poor and in dire need of money;... on the other hand, it is not the desire for wealth that drives him, but the thought of being chosen and the superiority of some people over others. Is it possible to internally justify a crime and what punishment awaits those who decide to violate social and moral laws - these questions create the drama of the novel and keep the reader in suspense until the end. Expressive illustrations for the novel were created by the artist Dementiy Shmarinov, a master of conveying the most complex psychological characteristics of the characters.
