About the Cat

Kittens and big cats, purrers and brawlers, homebodies and wanderers, gray and red - these whiskered favorites are always at the top of their owners' hearts: it's no wonder that they say cats rule the world. Poets dedicate poems to... them, or even entire epics, and artists paint portraits that just beg to be stroked. This collection features poems by Russian poets, whose main characters are cats and kittens. Daniil Kharms and Yunna Moritz, Anna Akhmatova and Afanasy Fet, Sasha Cherny and Ivan Bunin, Teffi and Alexander Vvedensky admire and are amazed by cats. The book is adorned with works by the famous St. Petersburg artist Maria Pavlova. The cats in her illustrations are warm, fluffy, and so lively that you can almost hear them purring.
