The purpose of sleeves is to protect cards from any hardships. Sleeves are hard yet flexible plastic shells for cards, with a cut on the short side where the card is placed. First and foremost, sleeves extend the lifespan of... the cards. Inside the sleeve, the card is safe from drink spills that players may accidentally pour on the playing area. Sleeves protect cards when you shuffle the deck; without them, the edges of the cards can rub against each other and may damage the backs. Furthermore, some players find that cards in sleeves feel more pleasant to the touch.
When choosing a sleeve, always check the size of the cards and the size of the sleeve. In a sleeve that is too large, the card will move freely and may fall out. In a sleeve that is too small, the card either won’t fit at all or will bend.
