Letters to Father

The father of twelve-year-old Tanya dies in a terrorist attack in the Rostov region. Through experiencing this grief and recounting her own life, the growing heroine contemplates the history of her country. Studying the literature of Russian emigration and examining... her own past in sessions with a psychologist, she reflects on her relationship with her father through the lens of culture, addressing foreign stories — the experiences of Stalin's daughter Svetlana Alliluyeva, the perceptions of the fathers of Marina Tsvetaeva, Boris Ryzhy, Jean-Paul Sartre, Peter Esterhazy, and other well-known literary figures.
