The Blind

Maurice Maeterlinck is an amazing, avant-garde Belgian playwright. Most people know him from childhood through the famous 'Blue Bird', but many other mysterious, symbolic plays also deserve attention. All the creators of the Silver Age adored Maeterlinck for his dark... plots, in which the heroes are bound by Schopenhauer's unknowability of the world. In Russia, Maeterlinck was recommended for production by Chekhov, and Stanislavsky noted: 'There is no interesting novelty ahead, except for Maeterlinck.' The collection includes translations by N. Minsky and L. Vilkina of such plays as 'Aglavena and Selizetta', 'The Blind', 'The Miracle of Saint Anthony', and others.
