The Akathist is dedicated to Saint Nektarios (1846-1920), one of the most revered saints in Greece. Born in Ottoman Turkey in Selymbria, Nektarios went to Greece, where he took monastic vows (Chios) and studied at the University of Athens. In... the status of Metropolitan of Pentapolis, he served for two years in Egypt, but having been subjected to disgrace and slander, he was forced to return to Greece. He served as a preacher in Euboea, and in Athens he directed a theological school for more than ten years. Nektarios spent the last twelve years of his life on the island of Aegina in the nunnery he founded in the name of the Trinity. In 1961, the Patriarchate of Constantinople canonized Nektarios as a saint.
