Proximity

A simultaneous interpreter arrives in The Hague to work at the International Criminal Court. Her whole life is a series of endless moves, and in the gloomy seaside city she hopes to finally find a home. But it is not... so easy to get close to people for someone who is used to speaking other people’s words, catching the slightest changes in tone and mood. When she is assigned to work with a former African president accused of crimes against humanity, she does not yet know that this will become a true test for her as a professional. Her personal life is also colored by drama: the person she started dating is going through a difficult divorce and seems not yet ready to fully free himself from the bonds of marriage. All of this pushes her to the edge of an existential abyss. And the only path to salvation is finding her own voice.
