The Nutcracker and the Mouse King

  The fairy tale by Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffmann was first published in 1816 and has become the most famous magical story of the German Romantic writer. Today, more than 200 years later, this outstanding literary work, in which the... sincere feelings of the kind and compassionate girl Marie break the wizard's spell and save the main character in the form of the tiny grotesque Nutcracker, continues to captivate readers of all ages.
  In this edition, the wonderful events of Hoffmann's masterpiece, imbued with the belief that good will inevitably triumph over evil and that a person can be truly happy, are presented in the classic Russian translation by the laureate of the Pushkin Prize of 1901, Alexander Lukich Sokolovsky (1837–1915). The romantic atmosphere of Hoffmann, the mystery and kindness of his story, in which the worlds of people, mice, and dolls intertwine and interact, are complemented by colorful illustrations by contemporary Ukrainian artist Marina Puzirenko.
