Jack London, a recognized classic of American and world literature, is primarily known as an author of adventure works. His novels and stories about exciting and risky journeys, about strong, determined, and noble people enjoy unchanging success with readers. But... Jack London is rightly called one of the greatest masters of the short story as well. This publication includes two of his authorial collections. The stories combined in them were written in the later period of his work. The collection "Tortoises of Tasmania" (1911) turned out to be London's last lifetime publication, while the collection "For Courage" (1923) was prepared for printing by Charmian London, the writer's widow, - "in accordance with his own intention," as she indicated in the preface. The variety of plots and themes, unexpected and even paradoxical endings, sincerity, and faith in human nature are characteristic features of London the storyteller, for which millions of readers around the world love his works.
