The basis of the illustrative material for the publication "Russian Folk Decorations" is a collection of ornaments from the Russian Ethnographic Museum (St. Petersburg). The collections of the REM include items from the 18th to the 20th centuries, used by... peasants in the territories of the Russian North, Northwest, Central Russia, southern and southwestern regions, the Volga region, the Ural region, as well as in Siberia. The album will present almost all the diversity of decorations: - neck (beads, necklaces), - chest (beads, collars, cords, ruffles) and back (straps, bows). It is also planned to demonstrate the variety of materials used to create decorations in the folk environment: threads (gari, raw silk, cotton threads), fabrics, ribbons, trims, lace, cords, zippers, glass (beads, seed beads, tubular beads, buttons), metal (glitter, casts, studs, buttons, bells, coins, tokens), metallized thread (as well as kanitel, fringe made from it), mother-of-pearl and cowrie shells, etc. The album will include the following sections corresponding to the techniques of making decorations: - sewing on the white, - gold sewing, - embroidery (with threads, metallic glitters, buttons, seed beads, chopped mother-of-pearl), - attaching (ribbons, trimming, zippers, etc.), - sewing (including patchwork), - stringing, - weaving, - the technological method of winding threads onto a base, as well as creating tassels from them. The publication includes photographs of complete costume ensembles. This allows for the representation of the diversity of Russian folk costume ensembles (with a poncho, sarafan, striped skirt, kubelok). For the same purpose, historical photographs from the REM archive are included in the album, including those from the collection of N.L. Shabelskaya, and illustrations of paintings by K. Makovsky, S. Moshin, R. Felitsin, N. Pymonenko, among others. In the book "Russian Folk Decorations," all known types of national decorations will be shown for the first time. Works by contemporary designers who use the techniques and motifs of traditional folk decorations in their creativity will be presented separately. The high significance of the publication is due to the fact that a large part of the items has never been published before.
