Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva (1892–1941) — a Russian poetess of the Silver Age, translator and publicist. A romantic by nature, Tsvetaeva did not accept the "organized violence" of poetic schools. Rejecting any structure, she acknowledged only natural elements and the power... of literary language... A raging temperament, a strong spirit, principled independence, passion and stylistic originality make her poetry one of the most significant phenomena in the history of Russian literature. Symbolist poet Bryusov wrote about her first collection: "When you read her book, it sometimes becomes awkward, as if you peered indiscreetly through a half-closed window into someone else's apartment and glimpsed a scene that outsiders should not see."
