The Time of the Old God

Police officer Tom Kettle retired almost a year ago and settled into a rented apartment located in an extension of a Victorian castle, overlooking the Irish Sea. For long months, he spoke to no one and hardly saw anyone, except... for a glimpse of his eccentric landlord and a nervous young mother who had recently moved into the neighboring apartment. Tom's life remained in the past; he lives, unable to distinguish between reality and memories—of his beloved wife June, daughter Winnie, and son Joe. They visit him in both dreams and reality. Tom expects nothing; he is content to look out the window at a diving seagull, drink tea, and remember, remember.
But one day, a couple of former colleagues show up at his doorstep, wanting to ask about a case from ten years ago that remains unsolved, something Tom could not come to terms with. And dark whirlwinds of his past, which he tried to forget, burst into Tom's present.
