Dorian's beauty and innocence are noticed by Henry Wotton—a friend of the artist, a worldly gentleman, and a hedonist. Lord Henry sees in the inexperienced youth a wonderful subject for study and plants the idea in his mind that the meaning of life lies in pleasures and indulging base passions. When a carelessly expressed wish by Dorian Gray to remain forever young comes true, the moral degradation of the young man begins. Meanwhile, the physical decay catches up with the image in the portrait. It turns out that beauty is indeed a terrible power...
