The work of the English Romantic poet Lord George Gordon Byron (1788–1824) played a key role in the formation of European Romanticism and had a huge impact on world literature. At different times, Byron's work inspired Pushkin, Lermontov, Oscar Wilde,... Thomas Mann, and others. The main character of the poem "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" (1812) is a nineteen-year-old young man, jaded by the benefits of high society, disillusioned and weary of life. Childe Harold belongs to a new type of romantic hero, known as the "Byronic". The collection also includes Byron's lyrical poems.
