The current edition consists of two books translated by Vladimir Nabokov in 1920–1923: "Nikolka Persik" ("Kola Bruñon") by Romain Rolland and "Anya in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll. Having mastered French and English since childhood, Nabokov, at the beginning of his... writing career, tackled two equally challenging works for translation and demonstrated his virtuosity in the Russian language, managing to reproduce the wordplay, imagery, and poems of the originals. In this regard, the translation attempts of the future author of "The Gift" and "Ada" reveal the beginnings of his sophisticated literary style. "Nikolka Persik" apparently became the first Russian translation of "Kola Bruñon," while "Anya in Wonderland" was recognized as one of the best translations of "Alice" into Russian.
