Arkady Petrovich Gaidar (1904–1941) was a Soviet writer, author of children's books ("Chuk and Gek", "Timur and His Team", "The Drummer's Fate", etc.), and he participated in the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars. He dreamed of going to the front... and fighting, just like his father. A.P. Gaidar was only 14 years old when he became the commander of a unit. In 1922, he was demobilized from the ranks of the Red Army. Gaidar's first work was published in 1925. It was the novella "In Days of Defeats and Victories". Since 1932, the writer worked as a special and later military correspondent for various newspapers and magazines. Many of A.P. Gaidar's works became part of the school curriculum and found their readers in different countries around the world. The fairy tale "Hot Stone" was published in 1941 in the children's magazine "Murzilka". As in any fairy tale, in "Hot Stone" there is a lesson for "good young men". The main idea of the work is simple but very important — life should be lived with dignity so there is no need to rewrite it clean. Life is given to a person only once, and it should not be wasted on useless things and bad deeds. The story "The Fourth Dugout" was written by Gaidar at the request of his wife L.L. Solomyanskaya. She worked as an editor for "Pioneer Truth on the Radio" and asked Gaidar to write a short story for the radio newspaper. Three friends unexpectedly find themselves at the epicenter of military exercises. The guys do not understand what is really happening, whether they will manage to get out alive, and this becomes a serious test for them. The story was first broadcast on the radio in 1930, and in 1931 it was published as a separate book. For younger school age. The text of the works is presented without cuts.
