Vladimir Alekseevich Gilyarovsky (1855–1935) — a Russian writer, journalist, a legend of Moscow and its chronicler, author of the famous book "Moscow and Muscovites" (1926). In the book "Moscow Newspaper" (published in 1960), he reminisces about his work in the... periodical press, where he published essays and reports on contemporary issues. Gilyarovsky became known as the "king of reporting," becoming one of the best chroniclers of his time. His articles and feuilletons often increased the circulation of the newspapers he collaborated with, and through these publications, we today learn about life in pre-revolutionary Russia. "With pride, for almost half a century, I held the title of reporter — a title that had not been esteemed in our society for various reasons... I loved this work endlessly and devoted myself to it entirely, often not without risk. And never was any of my reports disproved. Everything was strict, verified, and pure truth" (V. A. Gilyarovsky).
