Nadezhda Lokhvitskaya (1872–1952), known to everyone under the pseudonym Teffi, was called by her contemporaries the “queen of humor.” She was admired from Nicholas II to Lenin, and her funny, ironic stories and feuilletons with witty observations on life and... notes of sadness were very highly appreciated. Having survived three revolutions, two world wars, and finding herself in exile in the 1920s, she retained spontaneity, lightness and the ability to laugh at ordinary everyday situations in her “short prose”, and introduced a philosophical character into her memoirs. In Russian Paris, Teffi was one of the favorite writers. There she created “Memoirs”, as well as essays on the pages of which A. Kuprin, A. Tolstoy, A. Averchenko, A. Akhmatova, N. Gumilev, S. Yesenin, V. Rozanov, G. Rasputin, A. Kollontai come to life and many others. She wanted to create the book “My Chronicle” from them, but she did not have time to assemble it herself.
