Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn is a Russian writer, publicist, public figure, Nobel Prize laureate in literature (“For the moral strength with which he continued the traditions of great Russian literature,” 1970), laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation for... outstanding achievements in the field of humanitarian work (2006 ), academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The novel "August the Fourteenth" was published in 1971 in Paris, becoming the first book ("The Knot", as defined by the author) in the epic "The Red Wheel", a large-scale historical and artistic canvas dedicated to the events in Russia 1914-1917. The novel takes place at the beginning of the First World War. Numerous storylines, an abundance of characters (many of whom are famous historical figures), vivid, dramatic events, and historical accuracy allow us to call the novel one of the most significant historical works of the twentieth century.
