George Orwell, an English writer, critic and publicist, entered literary history primarily thanks to his last novel, 1984. The book was published in 1949, was reprinted many times and was translated into 60 languages. Along with the novels “Brave New... World” by O. Huxley and “We” by E. Zamyatin, Orwell’s book became one of the main dystopias of the twentieth century. The society of the future depicted by the author is based on total lack of individual freedom, propaganda and open violence, which, according to the author’s bitter and menacing prediction, won in the fictional state of Oceania by 1984, but in the structure of this state the features of any totalitarian regime are easily discernible. This collection also includes the famous satirical fairy tale-parable "Animal Farm", which is thematically adjacent to the novel "1984". The animals in the fairy tale, having expelled their owner from the farm, are trying to create a fair society according to the laws of universal equality. But this turns out to be not such an easy matter, for, as the novel says: “All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others.”
