XV century. The young doctor Anton Ehrenstein, who studied at the University of Padua and took anatomy lessons from Leonardo da Vinci himself, comes to Moscow to become a court physician to Tsar Ivan III. Despite the fact that the... appointment was facilitated by the engineer Aristotle Fioravanti, who enjoyed the favor of the sovereign, the new doctor was not given a very warm welcome. In addition, the newcomer is placed in the house of a boyar who has a fierce hatred for the Germans, including Anton, but the situation becomes even more complicated when the boyar’s daughter falls in love with Anton. The semi-fictional story told by the Russian novelist Ivan Ivanovich Lazhechnikov is based on the real fate of the foreign doctor Anton Ehrenstein, who arrived in Moscow in 1485.
