The book was the first to collect under one cover all the stories of the famous cycle of science fiction works by the writer Evgeniy Serafimovich Veltistov (1934–1989) about the adventures of a robot boy: “Electronic - the boy from...
the suitcase”, “Ressi - the elusive friend”, “Winner of the impossible”, “What’s next” ?,” “El and Elechka” (New Adventures of Electronics). It also includes the film script "The Adventures of Electronics". The publication is decorated with illustrations by the artist and innovator in the field of hand-drawn cinema, Evgeny Tikhonovich Migunov.
A journalist by training, Evgeniy Serafimovich Veltistov was able to occupy a very special place in Russian literature of the second half of the 20th century. He was one of the first to write science fiction stories for children. His first work in this genre, “Adventures at the Bottom of the Sea,” was published in 1960. Four years later, Veltistov published a new book, which played up the technique of doubles, effectively played out by Mark Twain in The Prince and the Pauper. Only in Evgeniy Serafimovich, in accordance with the spirit of the times, one hero became a lively Soviet boy, and the second, just like him, became a robot! This technique, coupled with Veltistov’s literary talent, worked, and over time, stories about the adventures of Electronics resulted in a whole series of stories. All of them are collected under one cover in this publication. Evgeniy Serafimovich also wrote fiction for adults. He wrote the story “A Sip of the Sun. Notes of a programmer Mart Snegov" and the novel "Nocturne of Emptiness", however, it was the adventures of the electronic boy that became a kind of calling card of the writer, who began to develop the topic of androids long before the era of artificial intelligence. And he did it easily, excitingly, and with humor. This is where the enduring interest of readers of all ages in the adventures of Electronics lies.
The drawings in this book were made by Evgeny Tikhonovich Migunov. Their main distinguishing feature is their extraordinary dynamism and expressiveness. The characters drawn by the artist are almost always depicted in motion, and this is no coincidence, because Evgeniy Tikhonovich worked in animated films for many years. In 1939, he entered the art department of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography, where he began studying in a workshop under the guidance of the famous Ivanov-Vano. After graduating from VGIK, Migunov became not an ordinary animator, but a real innovator of hand-drawn and puppet cinema. His creative achievements played an important role in the formation of the modern school of Russian animation. Migunov came up with new techniques, patented inventions that helped bring dolls to life, and proposed new directorial techniques. Since 1961, Evgeniy Tikhonovich began collaborating with the magazines “Murzilka”, “Funny Pictures”, “Pioneer”, “Crocodile”, making numerous illustrations for them. In 1965, it was with his drawings that the Strugatsky brothers’ famous story “Monday Begins on Saturday” was published. In style and technique they were very similar to his illustrations for Veltistov’s stories that adorn this book.
