The Book Thief

January 1939. Germany. A country holding its breath. Death has never had so much work. And there will be even more. A mother is taking her nine-year-old daughter Liesel Meminger and her younger brother to foster parents near Munich because... their father is gone — he was swept away by the breath of an unfamiliar and strange word “communist”, and in the eyes of the mother, the girl sees fear of the same fate. On the road, death visits the boy and notices Liesel for the first time. Thus the girl ends up on Himmel Street. Whoever came up with that name had a healthy sense of humor. Not that it was a true hell. No. But it was definitely not paradise. “The Book Thief” is a story that, among other things, tells: about a girl; about different words; about an accordionist; about various fanatical Germans; about a Jewish fistfighter; and about countless thefts. It is a book about the power of words and the ability of books to nourish the soul.
