This collection includes the most famous legends that originated in the Middle Ages in Germany: about the Pied Piper of Hamelin, who freed the town from the rats that plagued it but did not receive the promised payment; about Lohengrin... — the beautiful Swan Knight, who appears from time to time where the weak and wronged need protection; about the river fairy Lorelei, who sings an enchanting song on the rock, luring swimmers into a deadly whirlpool; about the black magician Doctor Faustus, who sold his soul to the devil, meanwhile exalted and romanticized by popular imagination. These legends have been brilliantly retold for children by the famous children's writer Sofia Prokofyeva. The illustrations, which are extraordinarily expressive and detail the narrative, were created by the incomparable Nika Golts.
