Malcolm Laurie had quite a difficult but eventful life. The writer traveled extensively around the world, and the adventures, trials, and journeys he experienced often served as sources of ideas for his novellas and stories. Laurie's prose intertwines plots about... the happiness of love and the beauty of nature, the fleetingness of life, and the burdens of existence on earth, characterized by the piercing nature of the plots and the brightness, vividness, and imagery of the descriptions. Like much of the author's work, the collection "Hear Us, God" was published after Laurie's death. Some stories from the collection were published during the Soviet era, but it is only now that all the works have been gathered under one cover, with "Through the Panama Canal," "The Elephant and the Colosseum," and "Pompeii" being published in Russian for the first time.
