It is no coincidence that at the beginning of the 20th century, Marina Tsvetaeva called Akhmatova “Anna of All Rus'”, and critics dubbed her “Russian Sappho”: it seems that the famous poetess embodies all Russian poetry. Her lyrics and her... life reflected almost the entire twentieth century - from the foggy Silver Age to the “thaw” sixties. “Most of all she was interested in whether the poet spoke, whether poetry, Russian poetry, spoke the language of his time,” Joseph Brodsky spoke of Akhmatova. She herself managed to become the voice of several generations, choosing the right words to express the spirit of the era. Until now, Anna Akhmatova’s lyrics disturb and captivate readers. The book presents selected poems and poems, autobiographical prose and reviews of contemporaries about Anna Akhmatova. The publication is accompanied by illustrations by Oleg Redium (@olegredium).
