Humanity has learned to disperse clouds, predict the weather and even create snow. The Good Fun brand offers to conduct an unforgettable experiment and see with your own eyes how polymer powder instantly turns into a crumbly snowdrift.
A very simple...
and super-fast experience, 3 minutes - the snow is ready. The Good Fun collection includes traditional white and exotic colored snow: red, green and even yellow.
Artificial snow is absolutely safe. It doesn't melt and is great for crafts, sensory boxes, or interior decoration. Just imagine: an Arctic glacier in the middle of the room.
An incredible experiment will introduce your child to the unique properties of sodium polyacrylate. This polymer is capable of absorbing liquids 200–300 times its own weight.
What is artificial snow made of?
Snow is made by mixing water with sodium polyacrylate powder. The superabsorbent polymer is a sodium salt of polyacrylic acid. The molecule of this substance is a tangled chain of many identical links.
When we mix sodium polyacrylate with water, the water molecules seem to get stuck inside this ball, which leads to the substance increasing in size and retaining moisture at the same time. The same reaction occurs, for example, in baby diapers, which contain nothing more than sodium polyacrylate.
How to make artificial snow?
Take a plastic mold and add 1.5–2 tablespoons of sodium polyacrylate.
Pour 100 ml warm or hot water into a measuring cup. If you want to make colored snow, add a few grains of dye to the water and stir thoroughly.
Quickly and carefully pour water into the mold with the powder. At one point, the powder will turn into a crumbly mass and begin to “crawl” out of the mold.
Artificial snow is ready. If you want to make it even more like the real thing, place your snow in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
Over time, the moisture will begin to evaporate and the substance will dry out. To return it to its previous appearance, just spray it with water from a spray bottle.
