Perhaps rarely has anyone had such a successful literary destiny: Kipling’s works were enthusiastically received by critics and translated... into three dozen languages, the fees turned out to be record-breaking, and during the author’s lifetime four collected works were published - a truly unique case. "The House of Desires and Other Mystical Stories" is a complete collection of mystical-fantasy prose of the famous classic. Here, a ghostly rickshaw cart is accompanied by lackeys in black and white livery, and a love amulet helps its owner only if it has been stolen, and preferably with bloodshed; here the gods of the Hindu pantheon discuss in the night after the flood whether to allow the gigantic bridge erected by the builders with such difficulty to stand, and on the way to the greengrocer on Wadlows Road stands the House of Desires, which allows you to take on someone else’s misfortune...
Many of the stories and stories that make up this collection have been translated into Russian for the first time, others are presented in new translations, and the rest are in a new edition.
